Antim Kumar Maurya is a Research Scientist and NMR facility Manager at the School of Pharmacy and Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. With over 40 peer-reviewed publications in internationally recognized journals, my career demonstrates expertise in natural product chemistry and structural glycobiology. Currently, I am a research scientist at the University of Mississippi with a broad background in natural product chemistry and structural glycobiology, as well as specialized training and expertise in advanced Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. My research focuses on the isolation and structural characterization of unique sulfated polysaccharides and oligosaccharides from marine sources to develop novel therapeutic agents. This research investigates unique anticoagulant GAGs to overcome heparin's limitations, including bleeding risks and lack of oral availability. My research approach integrates advanced analytical techniques, primarily NMR spectroscopy and HPSEC/MALS, to elucidate the fine chemical structures of these complex glycans and define their structure-activity relationships. This foundation was built during my postdoctoral training under the supervision of Dr. Vitor H. Pomin, where I conducted extensive research on marine sulfated polysaccharides. In addition to my research, I apply my technical expertise in a leadership role as the Manager of the NMR Facility for the School of Pharmacy and the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. In this capacity, I am responsible for providing advanced training to graduate and undergraduate students, as well as visiting scholars and fostering a collaborative research environment essential for interdisciplinary drug discovery programs. Research Interests: • Isolation and characterization of sulfated polysaccharides. • Phytochemical investigation of aromatic and medicinal crops • Study of essential oil composition from aromatic crops and their applications • Bioactivity guided natural product isolation of new compounds from medicinal and aromatic plants and their extensive characterization using 1D and 2D NMR and HR-ESI-MS analytical techniques. • Metabolomics studies of medicinal plants for quality assessment. • Quantification of molecules from medicinal plant extracts using modern analytical (NMR, UPLC-ESI-MS/MS and GC-MS) techniques. • Synthetic modification of natural compounds for enhancement of biological activity. • Synthetic chemistry
