Dr. Carmela Y. Drake is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, National Certified Counselor, Certified Adolescent Alcohol and Drug Professional, and Certified Compulsive Gambling Counselor (Level III) with over 25 years of experience in addiction treatment, counselor education, and behavioral health leadership. She serves as Associate Professor and Program Coordinator in the Rehabilitation Studies Program at Alabama State University and is an Adjunct Professor with City Vision University, where she teaches addiction-focused courses. Dr. Drake is the owner of GFG Counseling and Consulting Services, providing adolescent and young adult substance use treatment, clinical supervision, and program development support. Her professional background includes extensive experience as a program director, substance use disorder clinician, consultant, and mental health professional across residential, community, and correctional settings. She is an active leader in state and national professional organizations, currently serving as Interim Board President of the Alabama Association of Addiction Professionals and Co-Chair of NAADAC’s Critical Issues in the Black Community Committee. Dr. Drake has been involved with the Alabama School of Alcohol and Drug Studies for many years as a presenter, advisory board member, board member, and advocate. She is a published author and national presenter on addiction treatment, ethics, leadership development, and adolescent behavioral health. Chapter VII. Research Interests Addiction Studies, Undergraduate Rehabilitation Education, Treatment Strategies, Nutrition Education and Intervention in Addictions Treatment, Culturally Responsive Evidence Based Practices.
