ABSTRACT

Iron accumulation and sarcopenia represent a critical intersection in aging research, yet their relationship remains poorly understood. This study explores how iron biomarkers (ferritin, serum iron among others) and muscle parameters (BMI, SMI and so on) associate with sarcopenia risk in adults aged 60–80, while probing CRP’s paradoxical role. Our findings reveal ferritin’s marginal risk association, the protective effects of BMI/SMI, and CRP’s unexpected inverse relationship with sarcopenia, challenging conventional inflammation paradigms. These insights highlight the complexity of iron-muscle interactions in aging.
